My opinion about Self-inserts

Okay. I kinda did this because I've seen so many stamps, calling people, who actually enjoy self-inserts as "pathetic" or "insane". I think it's very insulting to say. I've also seen a lot of people, who were unsure and felt hurt because of that. Because do whatever you want: Self-inserts ARE and always HAVE BEEN a huge cult in the fandom-culture. I personally, don't read those "ReaderxCharacter"-stories in particular but I'm saying that I really DO enjoy fancharacters or even directly self-inserts in general. No matter if it's fanart, fanfiction or even comics. However, it feels like people, who doesn't like or agree with it, act like it's the worst thing on earth one can do and call those people "forever alone".

Why? I just don't get it. I love it to see self-inserts because I know people are having fun with them, hell I even did self-inserts myself! Fandom and everything else in that direction should be for the FUN. And if people live out their fantasies considering their favourite characters - what's the matter with that? It doesn't hurt anyone and people are having fun. I think one of the most stupid arguments I've heard against them was "...because the characters don't even exsist!" Aha. But ... isn't that even better? They don't exsist. Seriously, they won't get ever offended or something and just because you love a fictional character, it doesn't directly mean you're "forever alone".  Actually I know a lot of people, having a boy-/girlfriend and also are deeply in love with a fictional character.

And even if they exsist, refering to celebrity-self-inserts here, my God, I'm pretty sure the concerned persons have to search very hard to find those stories. Also, if they aren't fine with stories getting published about them, they have the right to say it and they won't get published on sides like fanfiction.net or so on. So, yeah. It isn't offensive or something to those, who doesn't like this style of fullfilment. I just thought it's unfair to say that those people are directly "insane" or retarded... And wanted to make my point clear that I'm perfectly fine with self-inserts and that, if we should ever meet, you should be never ashamed of them in my prescence. :D

I actually did a self-insert/wish fulfillment OC based on myself as well as my own life (albiet with a few changes). I may not be a professional writer, but I do actively AVOID making my SI OC a Gary Stu.

• He has flaws and faults, just like I do - no one is perfect

• He has a very high-functioning form of autism

• His life is based entirely on mine (again, with some certain changes here and there… nothing truly major, largely concerning his personality.

Addendum: I already commented here, this is more of an updated one.
